About the event
Please join the Woman's Club entry in this year's 4th of July Parade!
THEME: Marching Toward Women’s Equality & Freedom
MEET-UP: July 4, 9:30 AM on at The Library. We are entry #28 (right after AYSO)
PREP DAY: Sunday, July 3, from 4pm-6pm at the Clubhouse. We will provide sash and poster-making supplies, pizza, and soda. Bring your kids!
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE? All members and their families.
DRESS CODE: White Outfits plus Sashes, and Signs
In honor of the suffragettes, we will be wearing white. All-white outfits are preferred, but at a minimum please wear a white shirt.
We have white satin sashes that you can decorate with your women’s rights issue/message of choice, and/or you may carry a sign.
Some examples include:
- Votes for Women
- Reproductive Rights
- ERA Now
- Black Rights are Women’s Rights
- Protect Mother Earth
- My body my choice
- LGBTQi+ rights are women’s rights
- Equal pay for equal work
- Climate Change is a Woman’s issue
- End Domestic Violence
- End Rape Culture
- Girl Power!
No partisan, profane, or electioneering messages are allowed. The parade organizers "discourage political or religious statements or messages... that are not consistent with the theme of our nation's independence." It is our position that women's freedom and equality are consistent with that theme. Planned Parenthood is hopefully donating some shirts and posters that you may use as well.
CARS & MUSIC: We will have at least one convertible car with a sign. Please let us know if you have a classic or convertible car you'd like to drive (slowly)!
We will be playing fun music including Aretha Franklin’s Respect, Beyoncé's Who Run the World (girls), and I’m Every Woman by Whitney Houston.
BALLOONS: We need to find a way to incorporate balloons into the float, and we’d love your ideas. And your balloon donations!
HANDOUTS:We will be handing out frozen otter pops to kids in the crowd!
PRE-PARTY/PREP DAY: Poster and sash making party 4-6 PM Sunday night at the clubhouse. Pizza, drinks and sash- and poster-making materials provided.
Thank you to the Parade Committee - Lauren Black, Dana Abelson, Karen Levine, Judy Rivera, Marsha Lau and many others who have worked on this idea!
