I received a call from the daughter of a member about becoming a vendor in the upcoming Christmas Boutique just as we were losing Bev Passon to cancer in 2020.
I told the caller, Ann, we weren’t even sure we’d hold the event because the coordinator was very ill and in the hospital. I may have twisted her arm a bit, but by the time the call had ended, Ann had agreed to coordinate the Boutique.
Then President, Mavis Hansen, reminded me that she’d have to become a member to run one of our two main fund-raising events. Ann agreed and we have been very fortunate to call her a member and an event coordi- nator and – so much more- for the last four years. She has been a wonderful coordinator of our long-standing Holiday Boutique ever since.
Ann has been a cheerful, happy addition to our club and hard worker too. She spent hours helping to decorate the clubhouse for the holidays, she created and coordinated the Spring Fling event, and has helped with projects, meetings (both day and evening) and so much more. Can you remember all the paper flowers at the Spring Fling? What about Yoga? She encouraged us to bring our yoga matts in.
Ann has recently suffered the difficult loss of her mother Joan, at 100 years old. Soon she will be moving away to community near China Lake. And yet, she kindly agreed to coordinate our Christmas Boutique this year.
I am so grateful to Ann for her work with the club. We will all miss her thoughts and ideas and most of all her laughter. I wish her well, and I’m sure she’ll be a super friend and neighbor when she arrives in her new community.
